The Special Staff of North-West District Police arrested an absconding criminal, Guddu, after an exchange of fire near Munak Nahar in the early hours of 18 Sep.
According to police, secret information was received about Guddu’s movement. Acting on this tip a team led by Inspector Somveer Singh, under the supervision of ACP Ranjeet Dhaka, laid a trap near Kuda Khatta, AU Block.
Around 1 AM, Guddu was spotted by the informer. When the police team tried to stop him, Guddu attempted to escape and fired at the police with a country-made pistol with the intent to kill the Head Constable Narsi Ram, but the bullet hit his bulletproof jacket.
In retaliation, Head Constable Satya Narender fired in the air to warn him, and then shot at Guddu’s right leg, causing him to fall to protect the team. Guddu was injured and immediately taken to BJRM Hospital for treatment. A pistol, one empty cartridge, and one live cartridge were recovered from him.
During interrogation, Guddu confessed his involvement in recent murder in Shalimar Bagh area and is a habitual offender with previous involvement in he Ono us crimes including rape, attempt to murder & armed robbery. He had recently been released on bail in an attempt to murder case (FIR No. 279/25, PS Shalimar Bagh).

Police have recovered the following items from the accused:
One country-made pistol
One empty cartridge
One live cartridge
Police confirmed that this operation also helped to solve a murder case registered at PS Shalimar Bagh on 26 Aug .Further investigation is on to check his involvement in other crimes.
