Report: Manmeen Walia, New Delhi
Delhi Police’s IGI Airport team has busted a fake visa racket and arrested a Punjab-based agent along with a woman passenger who was attempting to travel to London on faked documents.
The case came to light when Amarjeet Kaur (22), daughter of Jasbir Singh, resident of village Talwandi Paan, District Kapurthala, Punjab, arrived at IGI Airport to board a flight to London. During immigration checks, her UK visa was found to be fake, leading to her immediate arrest and registration of a case.
During interrogation, Amarjeet disclosed that her brother lives in London and she also wanted to go there for work. Failing to clear the IELTS test, she opted for a shortcut. About 4–5 months ago, she came in contact with an agent, Sarwan Singh alias Kohli (52), son of Bachan Singh, resident of village Karhala Nauabad, PS Sadar, District Kapurthala, Punjab, who promised to send her to London on forged documents. A deal of ₹22 lakh was struck, out of which she had already paid ₹5 lakh in advance. A fake UK visa was affixed to her passport a few days before her travel.
Acting swiftly, a team under DCP Airport Vichitra Veer launched an investigation using technical surveillance and local intelligence, which led to the arrest of Sarwan Singh from Kapurthala, Punjab.
On interrogation, the accused revealed that he is only 12th pass and had been running this illegal racket for several years by identifying aspirants and luring them with false promises of sending them abroad on forged visas and documents.
This operation by IGI Airport Police has exposed a wider syndicate involved in duping people under the guise of overseas job opportunities.
