The Outer-North District Police have arrested a man in connection with a dowry death case in Shahbad Dairy.
Complainant Rampal (53), resident of Shahbad Dairy, reported that his daughter Rani was married to Ankit (25), son of Mahender, on 2nd June 2023.
Soon after marriage, Rani was allegedly harassed by her husband Ankit, mother-in-law Geeta, and father-in-law Mahender. They demanded money for a motorcycle and later asked for a television and jewellery. On refusal, she was abused, beaten, and even sent back to her parental home several times.
On the night of 28-29 September 2025, around 2:30 AM, Ankit informed Rampal that Rani had hanged herself. Rampal and his son rushed to ESIC Hospital, Sector-15, Rohini, where doctors declared her dead.
The SDM Narela recorded the statement of the complainant under law.
Based on the complaint, a case under relevant sections of BNS was registered. The accused Ankit Kumar (husband of the deceased) has been arrested.
DCP Outer-North District, Shri Hareshwar Shaami, stated that further investigation is underway. He appreciated the swift action of the team in ensuring that the accused was immediately arrested and assured that strict action will be taken as per law.
