The Central District Police have solved a blind hit-and-run case within a short time. The team of PS I.P. Estate traced the offending vehicle and arrested the accused driver after a detailed investigation.
On October 25,around 2:32 PM, the police station I.P. Estate received information about a road accident near the Yamuna Bridge area. Acting quickly, ASI Sanjeev and his team reached the spot. However, no eyewitness was found there. It was revealed that the injured woman had already been taken to LNJP Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at PS I.P. Estate under relevant sections, and the investigation was taken up.
A special team was formed, under the leadership of SHO/I.P. Estate, and under the close supervision of Sulekha Jagarwar, ACP Kamla Market, and the overall guidance of Nidhin Valsan, DCP Central District.
The team started a detailed investigation to trace the vehicle and the driver responsible for the accident. They coordinated with the 112 Control Room to get the exact time of the incident and then checked several CCTV cameras installed along the Yamuna Bridge stretch and nearby areas.
About 40–50 vehicles passing through that area around the time of the accident were shortlisted, and their owners were contacted. During the inquiry, one driver mentioned seeing a white Hyundai i20 speeding toward Sachivalaya Bhawan after the incident. CCTV footage near Sachivalaya Gateconfirmed the same, though the number plate was not clear.
Further analysis of CCTV footage from Kishan Ghat helped identify the vehicle’s registration number as DL-3CBZ-9255.
The vehicle was registered in the name of Kushal Pal Tomer, a resident of Daryaganj, who had recently moved to MAMC Campus, Delhi. On October 27, the police traced the address, located the vehicle, and arrested the accused driver.
During interrogation, Kushal Pal Tomer confessed that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident and fled from the spot out of fear.
Accused and Recovery
• Accused: Kushal Pal Tomer, R/o MAMC Campus, Delhi.
• Recovery: One white Hyundai i20 car (DL-3CBZ-9255) involved in the accident.
During further questioning, the accused stated that he was driving home when the woman suddenly came in front of the car, and the accident occurred. He panicked and left the scene without informing anyone.
The police are now making efforts to identify the deceased woman and complete all legal formalities.
This case was solved through the technical analysis of CCTV footage, field enquiry, and tireless efforts of the team of PS I.P. Estate, Central District.
