Report: Manmeen Walia, New Delhi
The Delhi Police Crime Branch has achieved a major breakthrough by arresting Bandhu Maan Singh Sekhon, the main conspirator behind the firing incidents at Kapil Sharma’s Kap’s Café in Surrey, Canada.
This operation was carried out under the overall supervision of DCP Crime Branch, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
During the night of 24–25 November 2025, a Crime Branch team led by Inspector Man Singh, Inspector Arvind Singh and Inspector Sunder Gautam received important information that the prime accused was hiding in Punjab.
Sekhon had fled from Canada after police there arrested several members of his gang.
A special team was formed under the supervision of ACP Sanjay Nagpal, including SI Manish, SI Naveen, SI Vijendra Diwach, SI Bharat Singh, HC Sanjeev, HC Sumit, HC Ramjas, HC Amit, HC Vikas, HC Jitendra, Ct. Sonu and Ct. Vineet.
The team travelled to Ludhiana and placed the area under secret surveillance. The accused was identified through technical monitoring as well as ground sources.
After his arrest, Sekhon admitted that he had received an illegal pistol. From his Fortuner car, the Crime Branch recovered a PX-3 semi-automatic Chinese pistol, 8 live cartridges and the vehicle itself. He also confessed to planning and supporting all three firing incidents at Kap’s Café in Canada in 2025.
On 10 July, shots were fired from a moving vehicle and the responsibility was claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi of Babbar Khalsa International and later by gangster Goldy Dhillon.
On 7 August, another round of firing took place and gangsters Goldy Dhillon and Kulveer Sidhu claimed it as a warning linked to suspected extortion.
The third attack took place on 16 October, when several rounds were fired and the responsibility was again claimed by Kulbir Sidhu and Goldy Dhillon. No one was injured, but the repeated attacks created concern in Canada.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Sekhon went to Canada in September 2023 on a work visa and worked at a pharmaceutical company in Brampton. There he met members of the Goldy Dhillon gang, including Daljot Rehal, Seepu and Sharry. He became involved with the gang and started helping them with logistics and planning. He also had earlier links with the Harry Chatha gang, which is known for extortion and ISI-backed activities.
Sekhon was already booked in Canada for conspiracy, illegal possession of weapons, careless use of firearms, possession of crime-related property and possessing a firearm with an altered serial number. After Canada Police arrested the main shooter, Seepu, Sekhon’s name emerged as the key planner behind the attacks. He fled to India on 23 August 2025 to avoid arrest.
The accused was also linked to an arms trafficking case in India. Earlier, the Crime Branch had arrested two men from Rohini and recovered 8 foreign-made pistols and 84 cartridges.
During questioning, they revealed that one pistol had been delivered to Sekhon, linking him to an international illegal arms network tied to fugitive gangster Sonu Khatri, who is operating from the USA. Sekhon also has a previous case registered against him in India under FIR No. 9/19 at PS Dugri, Ludhiana, Punjab.
The arrest of Bandhu Maan Singh Sekhon is a big achievement for the Delhi Police Crime Branch. It has helped expose an international gang network involved in cross-border organised crime and has strengthened India’s efforts against illegal arms trafficking.
Under the dynamic leadership and supervision of DCP Crime Branch, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, the team carried out an extremely challenging operation across state borders with precision and dedication. His strategic guidance, strong oversight, and commitment to public safety played a crucial role in the success of this complex investigation.
The Crime Branch officers, supported by advanced technical surveillance and effective ground intelligence, worked tirelessly to track, identify, and arrest the accused. Their professionalism and determination ensured that a dangerous conspirator involved in multiple firing incidents abroad was finally brought to justice.
This achievement is a proud moment for Delhi Police and a strong example of their capability to tackle international criminal networks with efficiency and confidence. The efforts of DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav and his entire team deserve high appreciation for safeguarding society and upholding the rule of law.
