Report: Manmeen Walia, New Delhi
The series of murders in East Delhi is not stopping. After the killing of three members of a family in Laxmi Nagar and the stabbing of a youth in the Welcome area, another shocking case has come to light from Trilokpuri.
In this incident, a 17-year-old student was brutally beaten to death by a group of juvenile boys. The case has once again raised serious questions about the law and order situation in East Delhi.
According to the police, on the evening of 5 January 2026 at around 7:25 pm, Mayur Vihar Police Station received information from Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital about a youth admitted in critical condition after a group assault. The injured was identified as Mohit (17), a resident of Indra Camp, Trilokpuri, and a Class 11 student. After initial treatment, he was referred to GTB Hospital, where doctors declared him unfit to give a statement.
DCP East Abhishek Dhania said that during the investigation, an eyewitness informed the police that Mohit had an ongoing dispute with a local juvenile. On the day of the incident, when Mohit was present in the Trilokpuri area with his friends, an argument broke out with a group of juveniles. The argument soon turned violent.
It is alleged that several juveniles surrounded Mohit and repeatedly punched and kicked him. Even after he fell to the ground, he was beaten mercilessly. Another youth who tried to intervene was also assaulted.
Mohit became unconscious during the assault. Later, on 6 January at around 1:15 am, GTB Hospital informed the police that Mohit had succumbed to his injuries.
Following this, FIR No. 09/26 was registered at Mayur Vihar Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation was initiated.
DCP Abhishek Dhania said that the crime team and FSL visited the spot and carried out a detailed examination. So far, the investigation has revealed that all six accused are juveniles, and they have been taken into custody. Police are waiting for the post-mortem report and the final medical opinion to confirm the exact cause of death.
Due to the continuous incidents of murder, fear prevails in the Yamuna Par area. Local residents say that the increasing violence and criminal behaviour among juveniles is a serious matter of concern. Police have assured that a thorough investigation is underway and strict legal action will be taken against those responsible.
