SOUTH-WEST DISTRICT POLICE NABS NOTORIOUS FRAUDSTER INVOLVED IN JOB SCAM TARGETING YOUTH

Report: Manmeen Walia, New Delhi

The alert team of Cyber Police Station, South-West District, has arrested a notorious fraudster who was cheating young job seekers by offering them fake jobs at the airport. The accused has been identified as Manoj, 33 years old, resident of Bijwasan, Delhi. One smartphone used in committing the crime has also been recovered from his possession.

A complaint was received from S. Singh, resident of Sector 7, R.K. Puram, Delhi, through the NCRP portal. He reported that he received a call from a person named Manoj who offered him a job at BWFS Company with a salary of ₹35,000 per month. The complainant was asked to pay ₹5,500 as a registration fee through Google Pay.

After the payment, he received a fake ID card through email and was again asked to pay ₹15,000. Once the money was transferred, the accused switched off his phone and stopped responding. The complainant then lodged an online complaint on the NCRP portal. Subsequently, FIR was registered at PS Cyber, South-West District, and the investigation began.

Considering the seriousness of the case, a team was formed under the leadership and the supervision of Inspector Pravesh Kaushik, SHO PS Cyber, and the overall guidance of  Vijay Pal Tomar, ACP Operations, South-West District.

During the investigation, it was found that the cheated money was transferred to an Indian Bank account. Even though the initial verification of the account holder was difficult, the team used technical surveillance and conducted raids at several places including Mahipalpur, Rangpuri, Palam, and Bijwasan. After three days of continuous effort, the accused Manoj was finally apprehended.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that he used to contact unemployed youth and offer them jobs at the airport. He would then demand small amounts ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹25,000 as registration or processing fees. Since the cheated amount was not very high, many victims avoided reporting the matter to the police, allowing him to continue his fraud for a long time.

The accused Manoj, aged 33 years, is 8th class pass and unmarried. He admitted that he was earning his livelihood through such fraudulent activities by targeting innocent job seekers.

One smartphone used in committing the offence has been recovered.

Further investigation in the case is underway to identify other possible victims or associates.

The remarkable action by the South-West District Police, under the leadership of DCP Amit Goel, once again reflects the high level of efficiency, alertness, and commitment of the Delhi Police in protecting citizens from cyber and financial crimes.

The timely investigation and swift arrest of the fraudster cheating innocent job seekers show how seriously the Delhi Police treats every complaint, no matter how small the amount involved. Such dedication and teamwork not only bring justice to victims but also help in preventing others from falling prey to similar scams.

DCP Amit Goel, has been continuously guiding his teams to act swiftly, use modern technology effectively, and ensure that every case is solved with complete professionalism. His leadership has strengthened public trust and shown that the Delhi Police is fully committed to maintaining safety, transparency, and public confidence in the digital era.
