Report : Manmeen Walia, New Delhi
the Cyber Police Station of Outer North District has busted an online job fraud racket and arrested two accused who duped innocent people on the pretext of providing employment. The accused used multiple bank accounts to collect cheated money from victims.
The operation was led by overall guidance of Hareshwar Swami, DCP/Outer North District, and Vijay Singh, Joint Commissioner of Police, Northern Range, Delhi.
A woman from Rohini reported that she was contacted by a person named Ashish Sahani, claiming to be a job consultant from steps4career.com. He offered her a position as a panel advocate and convinced her to pay ₹39,498 for registration and verification charges. After receiving the payment, the fraudster neither provided any job nor refunded the money.
Based on her complaint, FIR was registered at Cyber Police Station, Outer North District, and the investigation began.
INVESTIGATION AND OPERATION
During investigation, the cheated amount was traced to two bank accounts —
- Axis Bank A/c No. 923010042660469, held by Md. Akbar
- AU Small Finance Bank A/c No. 2501210077580181, held by Sanjay Ahirwal
Following technical analysis and manual surveillance, a raiding team comprising SI Amit, HC Rahul Nigam, HC Anil Kumar (IO), and HC Jagjeet was formed. After continuous tracking of changing SIM cards and devices, the team successfully arrested Md. Akbar.
Upon interrogation, Md. Akbar disclosed the involvement of Rupender Kumar and Sanjay Ahirwal. Acting on this information, the police conducted further raids and arrested Rupender Kumar from Dwarka.
ROLE OF THE ACCUSED
- Md. Akbar (32 yrs) – Resident of Garhi, Delhi. Provided his Axis Bank account to receive cheated money in return for 10% commission.
- Rupender Kumar (36 yrs) – Resident of Dwarka, Delhi. Acted as a middleman who arranged bank accounts through local contacts and facilitated fund transfers for commission.
Rupender Kumar has a criminal history, previously involved in two cases:
- FIR No. 16/2011 (U/s 397, 365, 411, 34 IPC & 25 Arms Act) – PS Samaypur Badli
- FIR No. 430/2016 (U/s 395, 412 IPC) – PS Pandav Nagar
RECOVERIES
- Two mobile phones
- One Axis Bank passbook
- One AU Bank cheque book
- One SIM card
The main mastermind Pradyuman Pandey (still absconding) created fake job listings and contacted victims online. He collected money using multiple bank accounts provided by associates.
Rupender Kumar coordinated the scam, arranging account providers like Akbar and Sanjay Ahirwal. Money first went into Akbar’s account, was transferred to Sanjay’s account, then withdrawn and passed to Rupender, who kept 10% as commission before handing over the remaining to Pradyuman.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accused and collect more digital and documentary evidence to strengthen the case.
