HEARTWARMING REUNION: PS SEEMAPURI TEAM REUNITES ABANDONED WOMAN WITH HER FAMILY AFTER 37-DAY SEARCH

Report : Manmeen Walia, New Delhi

In a heartwarming incident, the Shahdara District Police successfully reunited a mentally challenged woman with her family after a continuous 37-day search. The reunion took place on 07 Oct at IHBAS Hospital, where the woman had been under treatment since 04 Sep.

On 01 Sep, PS Seemapuri received information (DD No. 21A) about an abandoned pregnant woman found in the area. The woman, aged 21 years and a resident of Rani Khera, Teekamgarh (MP), was immediately taken to GTB Hospital for medical examination by WSI Anupam.

After her discharge on 04 Sep, she was produced before the Hon’ble Court, which directed that she be admitted to IHBAS Hospital for mental health care and evaluation. The hospital was also instructed to submit a detailed report regarding her condition.

To trace her family, HC Ankush was sent to her native village in Teekamgarh, MP, but no clue was found. Her details were then published in leading newspapers — The Times of India and Punjab Kesari— to help locate her family members.

On 07 Sep, IHBAS informed that the woman had delivered a premature baby girl, who was admitted to SDN Hospital for treatment. Sadly, the baby passed away during medical care.

Undeterred, the Seemapuri Police team continued their efforts. They travelled to Bageshwar Dham, MP, contacted local authorities and police stations, and distributed posters with her details. Though her missing case had not been registered anywhere, a breakthrough came when local beggars at Bageshwar Dham identified her.

Following this lead, her family was successfully traced, and the woman was finally reunited with them at IHBAS Hospital. The family was produced before the Hon’ble Court, which appreciated the sincere efforts of the police team.

The Hon’ble Court observed that SHO PS Seemapuri, IO/SI Anupam, and HC Ankush had shown “great enterprise in sensitively and successfully handling the case,” and directed that the DCP concerned reward the officers for their exemplary work.

DCP Shahdara, Prashant Gautam, has consistently displayed outstanding leadership, empathy, and dedication toward community-oriented policing. His guidance and motivation have played a vital role in encouraging his team to act with compassion and determination, ensuring that every individual in need receives care and justice. This case once again highlights his vision of promoting a humane and sensitive approach to policing in Shahdara District.

The Delhi Police as a whole deserves heartfelt appreciation for its continuous commitment to serving the community with integrity and compassion. Time and again, Delhi Police personnel have shown that their duty goes beyond law enforcement — it is about protecting lives, upholding dignity, and extending a helping hand to those in distress. The successful reunion of the woman with her family stands as a proud example of Delhi Police’s dedication, teamwork, and unwavering spirit to serve humanity.
