Delhi Police averted a major attack in the Rohini district after an encounter with members of the Gogi gang in the early hours of 20 Sep.
A team from PS Budh Vihar was patrolling on the basis of a tip-off that notorious gangster Lallu @ Ashroo and his associates were planning to open fire at the residence/office of a person linked with the Gau Rakshak Dal in Avantika, Rohini. Lallu had recently circulated a video of a mob assault on Instagram to showcase his gang connections and to spread fear in the area.
At about 2:40 AM, near Bankey Bihari Mandir, Sector-24, Rohini, police intercepted a white Swift car No- HR26EE6078 ,suspected to be carrying the criminals. Instead of stopping, the criminals rammed their car into the police Bolero vehicle and opened indiscriminate fire on the police team.
The police immediately took cover and retaliated. During the exchange of fire:
• Two criminals were shot in their legs and injured,
• One accused was caught on the spot,
• Two managed to escape by scaling a wall near Ganda Nala, Rithala.
The injured were shifted to hospital for treatment. Police fired six rounds in total, while the criminals fired about seven rounds.
Arrested/Identified Accused
1. Lallu @ Ashroo (23) – Resident of Mangeram Park, leader of the “Nassroo Gang” (named after his brother Nasrrudin, currently in jail in two murder cases of Bawana & Sultan Puri).
• Injured in the encounter, one sophisticated weapon recovered.
• Criminal record: Involved in five heinous cases, including attempt to murder and robbery.
2. Irfan (21) – Resident of Mangeram Park, Pooth Kalan, and a close associate of Lallu.
• Injured in the encounter, one sophisticated weapon recovered.
• Criminal record: Involved in two attempt to murder cases in Vijay Vihar.
3. Nitesh (30) – Resident of Baldev Nagar, Mathura (UP).
• Arrested at the spot, one country-made pistol (desi katta) recovered.
• Criminal record: Previously involved in cheating cases.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of BNS and the Arms Act (earlier IPC Sections 186/353/307/34). Further investigation is underway to nab the absconding criminals and to expose the wider gang nexus.
DCP Rohini Rajeev Ranjan, praised his team for their bravery and swift action, highlighting that such proactive policing is key to keeping Rohini safe and ensuring that criminals cannot spread fear in the community.
