Report: Manmeen Walia, New Delhi
The Operations Cell of South West District Police has detained two Bangladeshi nationals who had been living illegally in India for more than a decade. The action reflects the district police’s firm stance on illegal immigration and commitment to maintaining law and order.
The detained migrants have been identified as Shishir Hubert Rozario (35), a resident of Village Dhanun, Police Station Kaliganj, District Ghazipur, Bangladesh, and Mohd. Tauhidur Rahman (33), a resident of Village Khondokar Para, Post Office Kutub Zon, Police Station Mahesh Khali, District Cox Bazar, Bangladesh.
Both individuals had been illegally residing in India since 2014. Their visas had expired long ago, and they failed to produce valid identification documents when questioned by the police. Following due process and verification, the deportation process has now been initiated with the assistance of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), New Delhi.
The arrests were made in Mahipalpur, a vulnerable pocket of the South West District where the Operations Cell had intensified surveillance and carried out checks to identify suspected illegal migrants.
The action was part of a broader initiative by South West District Police to monitor and act against foreigners residing illegally in the area. The objective is to prevent crime and ensure the safety of the community by keeping close watch on vulnerable localities.
Based on secret information, the South West District Police constituted a special team under the leadership of Inspector Vijay Baliyan (I/C Special Staff/SW) and supervision of ACP Operations Sh. Vijaypal Tomar.
During the operation in Mahipalpur, the team intercepted the suspects and asked them to produce valid documents. Both individuals failed to provide any proof of legal stay and admitted that they were Bangladeshi nationals living in India without valid visas. Following thorough enquiry and completion of all codal formalities, the police initiated their deportation proceedings through the FRRO, New Delhi.
DCP South West District Amit Goel, IPS, praised the swift action of the Operations Cell, emphasizing that the operation reflects the police’s zero-tolerance policy towards illegal immigration. He reaffirmed that the South West District Police is fully committed to upholding the law and safeguarding the community.
