Central District Police have solved a sensational robbery case of Prasad Nagar with the arrest of Gagan, an ex-DCD worker and former Police Mitra, who turned out to be the mastermind.
On 08 Sep, the complainant and his co-worker were carrying ₹60 lakhs on a scooty from Karol Bagh to West Punjabi Bagh when four assailants stopped them near Dhobi Ghat, Karol Bagh. The attackers stabbed the complainant and escaped with the cash bag. A case was registered at PS Prasad Nagar and a joint investigation was started.
Considering the seriousness of the incident, a joint team of Operations, Special Staff, AATS, Narcotics, and PS Prasad Nagar was formed under the supervision of Ms. Sulekha Jagarwar,ACP Operations. The team included officers and staff from all the units, and they worked on technical as well as manual clues.
Nearly 100 CCTV cameras were checked and local enquiries were made despite resistance from some locals. Secret information also helped the police to conduct raids across Mathura, Agra, Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh and Gwalior and Orchha in Madhya Pradesh. After a chase of about 700 kms, the accused Gagan was finally arrested in Anand Parbat, Delhi, and robbed cash amounting to ₹15 lakhs was recovered from him.
During interrogation, Gagan admitted his role as the key conspirator. He revealed that he was influenced by a financer named Sahib @ Raftar from Karol Bagh, who kept an eye on the complainant’s employer. Sahib introduced him to Ricky, a criminal from Transit Camp, and they planned the robbery together. Ricky further brought in three more men — Noddy, Nikhil, and Sunil. On 8 Sep all of them executed the robbery and later divided the money. Sahib gave Gagan ₹15 lakhs as his share, while the others ran away with the rest.
Gagan, aged 25, lives in Transit Camp, Anand Parbat, Delhi, and originally hails from Chirawa, Rajasthan. His father runs a finance business in Delhi. He had earlier worked with DCD and later became a Police Mitra at PS Anand Parbat, but betrayed the trust placed in him. No previous criminal record has been reported against him.
With this arrest, the Central District Police have cracked the ₹60 lakh robbery case. The operation was carried out under the overall guidance of DCP Nidhin Valsan,who appreciated the relentless efforts of the team in solving this high-profile case. Further investigation is on to trace the remaining accused and recover the rest of the looted money.
